Day 31 (5/18/03) 1/2 Hr:  I went to install the Breast hooks and realized that I needed a #10 countersink bit.  I remember making a mental note to get this when i read through the instructions, but it's not in the "Required Tools" list, so I forgot.

I decided to round over the inner edges of the Breast hooks, anyway.  I was all ready to set up the router, but then just did it with a file and sandpaper.  My daughter has been wanting to help, so I brought the boat out into the front yard and set her up with a sanding block to rough-up the surface for adhering the Breast hooks.

Finding someone else to sand is always a bonus

Time for a play break... Union rules.

Day 32 (5/20/03) - 1 1/2 Hrs:  Installed the Breast hooks.  First, I took a piece of scrap wood and cut a piece that would give me a better clamping surface then the actual stem of the boat (see pic).  A thicker piece of wood would have been better.  I dry fit the pieces and, using my newly acquired countersink bit, predrilled for the screws.  The Breast hooks were then glued, clamped into place, and screwed.

Fit over each stem, this provided a better clamping surface.

Stern Breast hook glued, screwed and clamped (bikes optional)

Day 33 (5/21/03) - 2 Hrs:  Installed the inner rails.  There are two screws on either end of both rails that attach through the sheer and to the breast hooks.  The rail is epoxied to the hull with "mustard" mix.  One word here.... CLAMPS!!!!!

More Clamps!!!!!!

Day 34 (5/23/03) - 1Hr:  Dry fit both outer rails with clamps.  I then glued and screwed the starboard rail, leaving the port rail clamped for even pressure on the hull.  The spring clamps worked fine for the inner rails, but don't open wide enough for the outer rails.  Because of this, I don't have enough clamps to glue both outer rails at once.

HINT:  40 C-clamps is a good number to have on hand.

Day 35 (5/25/03) - 1/2Hr:  Glued and screwed the Port rail.
